The first cases were identified and confirmed in december 2019, in Wuhan, Hubei province, China. While the lungs are the most affected organs by the infection caused by the coronavirus, causing acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), pneumonia and septic shock, different manifestations of kidney damage have also been observed, which can greatly impact patient health, especially those receiving critical care. In hospitalized patients, cases of proteinuria, hematuria, acute renal failure, among other renal alterations have been observed, mostly in patients with severe infection. The objective of the following article is to inquire about the renal disturbances caused by SARS-CoV-2, as well as the different pathophysiological mechanisms involved. La COVID-19 es una enfermedad infecciosa causada por el virus SARS-COV-2. Los primeros casos fueron identificados y confirmados en diciembre de 2019, en Wuhan, provincia de Hubei, China. Si bien los pulmones son los órganos más afectados por la infección ocasionada por el coronavirus, provocando síndrome de distrés respiratorio agudo (SDRA), neumonía y shock séptico, también se han observado distintas manifestaciones de daño renal, lo cual puede impactar de gran manera en la salud del paciente, especialmente en aquellos que reciben cuidados intensivos. En pacientes hospitalizados se han observado casos de proteinuria, hematuria, insuficiencia renal aguda, entre otras alteraciones de índole renal, sobre todo en pacientes con infección grave. El objetivo del presente artículo es indagar acerca de las alteraciones ocasionadas por SARS-CoV-2 a nivel renal, así como los distintos mecanismos fisiopatológicos implicados. |
